Hampton Park 3976 · Established 1980s–90s estates

Hot water in Hampton Park.

Hampton Park is the most ageing-housing-stock postcode in our service area — 1980s-90s brick veneer with original gas storage tanks many of which are now 25–35 years old. We replace 4–5 a week here. Same-day repairs, sensible upgrade paths, and the $1,000 Solar Vic rebate handled in-house.

Why Hampton Park

The Hampton Park hot water story.

1980s-90s housing — mostly original storage tanks still in service.

Hampton Park was developed predominantly through the 1980s and into the early 1990s. Default install of the era was a Rheem Stellar 170L or Vulcan / Aquaheat 250L gas storage tank externally mounted on a concrete pad. Cylinder design life is 10–12 years — which means most original tanks here have already been replaced once (in the 2000s) and the replacements are themselves now nearing or past end-of-life. Combined with anode rods that have never been swapped, we’re seeing a steady stream of corrosion-failure replacements.

Mixed owner-occupier and rental — affects rebate eligibility.

Hampton Park has a meaningful proportion of rental and investment stock. The Solar Vic heat-pump rebate is restricted to owner-occupiers. For owner-occupiers, heat-pump conversion is the smart play — net $3K–$4.5K, ~$500/year saving, 5–6 year payback. For rental properties, like-for-like gas replacement stays cheapest upfront for the landlord, though Victoria’s minimum rental standards are tightening on hot water and the long-term direction is electrification.

Older gas lines — watch the upgrade compatibility.

Some original Hampton Park gas plumbing is 15mm copper sized for a modest storage tank. Upgrading to a high-flow Rinnai Infinity 26 may need a gas line upsize to 20mm — we check pressure on site before quoting. Likewise, the meter may need to be upsized by the gas retailer; we coordinate that.

Typical Hampton Park jobs.

  • Vulcan 250L conversion to Rinnai Infinity 20 instantaneous (gas line check required) — $2.5K–$3K
  • Gas storage to heat-pump conversion (Reclaim 250L) — $3.5K–$4K net after rebates
  • Tempering valve replacement (mandatory at 50°C max under AS 3500) — $300–$450
  • Same-day pilot light + thermocouple repair — $200–$400
